Mustang’s journey is finally over.  We can only guess what he’s feeling since he’s not letting us into much.

Usually a Detective story would end with a longer monologue explaining outcomes and what not but it just doesn’t suit our hero. He’s got many other troubles to bear.

And so Mustang’s adventure comes to an end and we resume the status quo.

I hope you enjoyed the adventure and thanks to everyone, specially Robyn, who helped me get this one together and ready.

Next time you see a Hobo sleeping in the park, think of Mustang and what possible stories may have transpired the day before.

These last few pages got me thinking. It takes a while to write the story and by the time you layout, ink and letter you often forget what you were thinking. So my choice of panels came as a surprise. The overpass, the alley and the park area. They kind of work.

This is what mustang is all about. Smart at times and sometimes even resourceful and yet a victim of his own condition.

There are options here but he fails to seek them in light of his personal short coming. Marty is gone but at least he is found. Would he have survived had they found him earlier? Had they not crashed in the alley?

It’s hard to tell, the reality is he gave it his best try and for hops hindsight is 20/20.

Things don’t always work out the way you want them but when you try you have to give it your best. This is the problem that Hops is going to be faced with. Was that the best he could do? Doubt is the enemy? Who knows, I guess it depends on the situation.

I’m happy that Marty looks happy in this page.

I don’t know why but at this point in the story I felt less stressed working on the book.

Maybe it had to do with the fact that these were more natural scenes as opposed to action scenes etc.

On the art side now adays I’ve been doing a lot of the mechanical work (that is to say rigid objects like doors, buildings etc) with pens as oposed to crow quill or brush. The logic being that organic lines made with crow quills and brush on organic objects like people, cloth or plants. Rigid lines on everything else.

It’s something to do if you’re into it.

Lots of pigeons in this story. All so adept at cohabiting in the urban scape.

Couple of tricky things happened in the construction of this page:

1) Panel 3 I had to spend some time figuring out with kneaded erasers how tires screeching would mark the asphalt as the car fish tails.

2) Panel 1 I had to fake how to drive stick. I don’t know how. So I couldn’t remember where the clutch was etc. And so the left foot (due to lack of oversight) came out looking a little bit like a right foot. Doh.

3) Didn’t like the smoke on Panel 5. Oh well. Do better next time.

All in all our friend is out one tire and stuck in front of a truck. What happens next is going to start wrapping up all the loose ends.
