Stubble Trash

Stubble_Litter

What is the meaning of this?

Why don’t you tell me.

Well if it wasn’t you? Who was it?

Some joker with no consideration of anybody else.

Seriously. What did he expect would happen? Disappear into the ether?

The nerve. The ignorance. The indignation. Paralyzing anger.  Lurking, strengthening.

Only one thing left to do.

I am the cool spring breeze blowing over the recently uncovered meadow.

That’s it,  you got the right idea.

Where’s the nearest  garbage can?

Just around the corner. I’ll show you.

Cycle be broken.

Fun with Flash

I’ve been meaning to get back into animating but alas when I was in school Flash was very new and the tools were primitive at best. Thats why every thing I made in Director, Painter or Traditionally hand drawn.

I put together a little experiment to see how Adobe Flash worked. I feel like I barely scratched the surface. The workflow is not there yet but shows promise.

I used the sketching tools to scribble a few hand drawn looping frames for the guitar player. I tossed some automatic inbetweening for the Stubble Bunny. Backgrounds is a quick Japan Sketch over a few photo shop texture filters.

Music is a snippet from Red Elvises, Boogie on the Beach. It’s a neat album if you like surf guitar/rockabilly music

A little later I decided to mess around with the bones features of Flash.

Here I’m just testing some flash IK on a quick Godzilla Doodle. I’m not 100% sold on how easy it is to work with. Seems like there are a lot of bugs. For example adjusting a bone will affect the and throw the entire rig off. Constraints behave a little erratically and there is some wonkyness on how . Still is something new to do.

Stubble Greetings

Stubble09

Hey man long time no see.

What’s it been?  A year? Two years?

I think Three. What have you been up to?

Same thing, working hard, hardly working. How about yourself?

I just had my long lost girlfriend call me up out of the blue to ask me about  an old piece of jewelry.  Except it wasn’t just jewelry, it was a one of a kind celtic relic. Some thugs explained that to me as I was being pinned face down on the floor. Luckily I had pawned something that looked like it the day  before so they needed my help and eventually a second group of thugs rescued me from their speeding van. The rest of the day we ran around looking for the thing, strong arming one pawn shop owner after another and then I meet up with the most gorgeous woman I have ever met, who also happens to know how to clog a pistol with a throwing star from 12 feet away. Honestly, that’s a skill that did not seem handy until that day. Turns out, she thought I looked like her old boyfriend from the telescopic scope of her riffle but she was really looking for the guy who lived across the hall from me. So in fact the jewelry I was thinking of was not the one she was looking for so she got angry and left. How was I supposed to know? She kind of sounded like my girlfriend on the phone and she was very vague and non descriptive when talking about the darn thing.

So you haven’t heard from Adriana since the last time I saw you?

Nope. I have no idea what’s become of her.

Really. She’s on facebook you know? Soon as I get to the computer I’ll send you the info.

Dude that would be rad! Let me give you my email?

Neat.

Stubble Tough

Stubble08

Boy, It is tough out there.

I heard that. Some days is just hard to even get out of bed.

What can you do? Life is just hard sometimes.

Um hum, at least it’s not personal.

True, true. Strictly business.

I’m thinking about planting flowers this year. Perennials.

You think they’ll take?

I don’t know. It’s worth a shot.

Damn right it is.

Stubble Moment

Stubble Pig and Rooster

The coffee is warm.

The room is mostly empty.

No one is speaking.

Outside, the world  slugs along to seek the future.

And just as you begin to understand it, the moment is gone and a new one arrives.

The coffee is warm.

Cream no sugar.

Good Reads

Sometimes people ask me, I’d like to make comics what should I read? Well here is a start. A good library will carry one of these. Stay away from books that want you to trace characters or those that water down the creative process in how to make your manga character look battle damaged.

  • The Art of Comic Book Inking by Gary Martin – This is theory and techniques from some very accomplished inkers. Here you really get down to why inking is NOT tracing but rather rendering. You wouldn’t call penciling doodling would you?

Stubble Valentines

Stubble_Valentines

We can try to deny it but it wouldn’t make a difference.

Nope.

Did you get one?

No, I did not. How about you?

I rather not talk about it.

Well, who’s is this?

If it’s not mine, I don’t want to know?

This is ridiculous! Why don’t we just walk away?

We are too good to be manipulated by such petty things.

Darn right girlfriend let’s book it.

You first.

No you first.

We can try to deny it but it wouldn’t make a difference.
Nope.

This thing will no longer lord over us.

Pigment Art Supply makes the Front cover!

Yep the store made the cover of Art Material Retailers.

They sent us a really well thought out set of questions. A few photographs from awesome area artist Adam Furgang and now the world can see the store (as well as my unshaven crazy hair look).

Global Game Jam 2010

Last weekend it was the Global Game Jam.

Folks all around the world get together to make individual games in 2 days.  I got to partake on this last year but alas I am busy making Monsters fight over rubble these days.

A group of folks I know made a most awesome game (which runs on PC only sorry) called The Sun Always Lies.

In it you are invisible and you can jump around, the rain is your friend and the sun is a liar. I won’t say anything else. Michael Kwan, Brian Shurtleff and Michael Campion.

It is certainly worth a look.

Stubble Anonymous

Don’t look now but I think we’re being filmed by local news people.

What? Why?

I don’t know they are pointing their cameras this way.

It’s probably a special interest piece on obesity or some other thing.

I don’t appreciate having my ass filmed for TV.

Bastards! They can hide our identity but not our pride.

What’s the plan boss?

Total frontal in 5, 4, 3…

Wait I don’t think their filming!

That was a close one.

Adventure Game Studio

As I casually browse the interwebs tubes I came across this neat development platform called Adventure Game Studio.

You will find that “Adventure Game Studio allows you to create your own point-and-click adventure games, similar to the early 90’s Sierra and Lucasarts adventures. It consists of an easy-to-use editor to create your games, and a run-time engine to play them.”

You will also find that Eric Feurstein (the man behind our last game post) has made some good adventure games himself.  If you have a PC you owe yourself to try them out (by clicking o the image bellow).

It’s the 2003 winer of Best gameplay and Best puzzle Adventure Game Studio awards.

Stubble Chess

Your move.
Getting Anxious?
Anxious to beat you.
Hah, You talk big but you don’t have the guts to bring down the thunder.
Try me, how are we doing on that move?
You know I just don’t see how this is the game of kings.
Loosing your queen, knight, bishops and rooks will do that.
Alas Rome has fallen.

Platforming staring Scott Moore

Today’s game update features Game Developer and Comic Artist Extraordinaire Eric Feurstein.

He posted  this game he made for his friend Scott Moore. It is very cool and you should all play it (by clicking on the image).

Life will be better for it.

Stubble Done

StubbleDone

So we’re really going to do this?

Darn right.

Who’s going first?

Does it matter? We’re both ready.

Okay then you go.

It’s already done. I’m already there.

No you’re not. You’re right here.

Mentally I’m there.

Really? How is it?

Not as I expected.

Stubble Wingman

StubbleWingman

So where is she?

She’s coming. Are you ready?

Guess so. What am I supposed to do again?

You’re my wingman.

Yeah… Im not sure what that means.

You take care of me.

How?

Praise me, make me sound interesting. We want her to like me.

What if she’s turns out to be really annoying?

Then fake a stroke.

Stubble Lashes

StubbleLashes

I love your lashes.

Thank you. I find it that it makes my eyes look more sexy.

What does your boyfriend think?

Boyfriends, it’s plural.

Okay, what do they think?

They don’t know.

They don’t know what to think?

They don’t know they’re my boyfriends.

New Year Stubble

StubbleNewYears

Do you have your New Year’s Resolution?

You going to eat that entire sandwich?

Ah… yeah.

Well I resolved to share more this year.

You’re not getting my sandwich.

I see…

I resolved to be more honest with others.

Thank you for that. On that note I too would like to come clean and re-emphasize my interest in a bit of your sandwich.

Interest noted.

Stubble X-mass

StubbleXmas

Happy Holidays.

You know, this is not Jesus’ birthday.

Yeah I know. The Church changed the date a long time ago to coincide with a pagan winter festival or some thing. It is funny how everyone agrees to celebrating on this day.

Everyone?

Protestants, Christians, Atheists…

Brings us back to my original point. It’s not his birthday.

I don’t think it has to. We’ve come to need this type of thing as part of our society. Costume day in October, get together and eat Turkey in November, give presents in December, etcetera, etcetera.

I see your point. We need to do things as a ‘pack’ to strengthen a correlation regardless of what the event is. Too bad is not his birthday though.

Happy Holidays to you too.

New Developers in Town

Robyn brought up an entry from the All Over Albany blog. Ghost Hand Games is an independent game developer that specializes at the moment on I Phone Apps.

The art is nice, the game is simple that goes a long way for Iphone. If you have an Iphone give these guys a chance.

I wish these guys luck. Iphone app markets are tough.
