Coyote showed up in a few school projects including this comic strip for the cartooning class I took with Rob Armstrong back in the Savannah College of art (circa 97 or 98).

This is the very first Coyote & Buzz drawing ever. “Coyote” (aka. Mad Dog) the main character in this book was drawn up back in 1994 in one of those pre-perforated inter-connected printer pages. The inspiration for his wardrobe and mean disposition came from Kevin Jarre’s movie “Toombstone” starting Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer.

I am not sure if I had discovered Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yoyimbo at the time this was drawn but I am a big fan of the long eared samurai and those books definitively contributed to the Iron Horse Ghosts.

Last page and I couldn’t think of anything more appropriate to say goodbye to 2011. This next year I expect the site to be a little more quiet. No weekly updates but perhaps a few general posts on games and what not.

The fabled gold was always on its way. After drawing the same wooden buildings for several pages I really welcomed the opportunity to draw covered wagons and infantry.

The smoke signal was unintentional and perhaps something that occurred to me to use after the laying out the first panel.

If the hero is to leave as he appeared then it feels more fitting, more epic, more mythical. This is true to stories like Pale Rider or Yoyimbo.  It’s a convention that could stand to be stretched into a metaphor for the impermanence of life. Endings are tricky and sometimes I feel it’s best to let them happen.
