The Hunt

Took a while but I finally got around to updating some of those old college animations that have been kicking around. This one is called The Hunt and it is the heart warming tale of a hunter and its prey and another hunter who also shows up. Bonus you get the original black and white original.

This was all animated by hand in paper mind you. I think the light table was improvised out of something but i’ll have to ask Jonny see if he remembers.

Here’s the other one.

That’s Beethoven’s Presto Agitato in the background. They use to play the hell out of it in the old smurf cartoons.

Here’s another flash test. I was trying out this idea I had where a guy is ridding a motor cycle. He jumps and turns into a dragon, the motorcycle turns into a girl robot and they swap places.

Here the one different process I used was a layer for roughs and key frames then a separate one for inks.

It was tricky not to have a shortcut for adding frames and erasing tool issues.

Sorry for all the extra frames. I was having trouble with YouTube quiting the video early to display advertisements for other videos.

Straight on animation is not too shabby to do. Select a range, right click to turn them into blank key frames, turn on onion skin and your done. The “<” and “>” keys advance frames. All in all I really dig this.

Here is a quick Tae Kwon Do form that I put together in a short time.

Fun with Flash

I’ve been meaning to get back into animating but alas when I was in school Flash was very new and the tools were primitive at best. Thats why every thing I made in Director, Painter or Traditionally hand drawn.

I put together a little experiment to see how Adobe Flash worked. I feel like I barely scratched the surface. The workflow is not there yet but shows promise.

I used the sketching tools to scribble a few hand drawn looping frames for the guitar player. I tossed some automatic inbetweening for the Stubble Bunny. Backgrounds is a quick Japan Sketch over a few photo shop texture filters.

Music is a snippet from Red Elvises, Boogie on the Beach. It’s a neat album if you like surf guitar/rockabilly music

A little later I decided to mess around with the bones features of Flash.

Here I’m just testing some flash IK on a quick Godzilla Doodle. I’m not 100% sold on how easy it is to work with. Seems like there are a lot of bugs. For example adjusting a bone will affect the and throw the entire rig off. Constraints behave a little erratically and there is some wonkyness on how . Still is something new to do.

The old site had some animations and I’ve been meaning get that going again for some time.

I have not done animation, well since perhaps Ultimate Spiderman GBA but the last time I did something significant probably goes back to Lion King 1 1/2 GBA. That’s like 2003!

One day I hope to get something new going on. Here is an animation that I am quite proud off.

Enjoy Moor Monster.
