Stubble Tears

Stubble_Pride

Grrr…..

Grumble grumble…

GRRRR!!!!

GRUMBLE!!!

That’s it, I’ve had it!

Me too but after all this effort it’s stupid to just give it up.

On that we can agree. Let’s go.

Grrr…..

Grumble grumble…

GRRR…did I do it?…RRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

GRUM…not even a wet spot..BLE!!!

Phew, It must take a real man to cry.

A real tough hombre.

It’s a darn shame.

An irritating truth.

Why don’t we take a break and practice admitting our flaws?

It’s going to be tough, I can’t think of any.

Stubble Hangover

Stubble_Hangover

Looking back now, I firmly believe  this state is not conducive to any endeavor.

Sadly, I knew what I was getting into.

Really?

Yeah,I had already learned this lesson. I took a chance, got overconfident and lost.

I can’t imagine being like this all the time.

Hungover?

No, helpless.

It sure is a strange way to appreciate how good you have it most of the time.

It’s funny how easily we forget.

That reminds me, thanks for sticking around.

Anytime. By the way I call dibs on the waste bucket.

That’s my hat.

Good to know.

Stubble Art

Stubble_Art

It’s taken me a long time to understand this type of art.

I don’t think we’re supposed to find meaning but perhaps connect to it in a personal level.

I agree but you have to take into account what the artist is trying to do.

There’s no statement or bio, I think we need to take a stab in the dark on our own.

Man’s struggle with the fast paced nature of communication and the growing isolation in modern society.

Or… the emptiness of thought overcoming process and form.

Or… he just likes to paint this way.

Or… he paints this way to rebel against his more objective and traditional style.

Could be any of that.

What do you think?

I like it. Reminds me of a dream I had.

I see a man on a tree.

We’ll probably forget this piece given time.

I’m still glad we came.

Spotlight on “Phil Mc Andrews”

Meet Phil, he just has a really cool style and puts it to use whenever he gets a chance to. Phill is an illustrator who has contributed comics to a number of anthology books and websites, including Top Shelf 2.0 and You Ain’t No Dancer books from New Reliable Press. He is a founding member of Found Hat Press, a collective of illustrators and cartoonists. He’s also worked as an educator, teaching art and drawing to young children as part of an after-school program.

I see Phil once a year for the Museum of Cartoon and Comic Art Festival and it is always a treat to see his fine quality mini comics.

Get to know Phil McAndrews you will see the process for the illustration above in his blog.

Stubble Weather

Stubble_Weather

It’s funny how gravity really grounds you both physically and emotionally.

This is freaking me out.

If it weren’t for gravity this whole world would just not work at all. It sets the rules that everything revolves around. And the rules give us the normalcy that can be so very comforting.

I can’t really steer myself here. First chance I have I’m getting out.

It’s interesting this weather we’ve been having. We feel better because the winter we’ve grown accustomed to is finally showing signs of being over.

I was about to say this would really suck if the water was freezing.

And yet because it got warmer we ended up here.

I may get be getting the hang of this.

The hang of the weather or the hang of drifting and not being able to hang on to anything at all?

Both probably. But I’m still going to try to get out as soon as I get a chance.

Spot Light on “Jumbly Junkery”

Meet L Nichols she is constantly making work. What does that mean? She is CONSTANTLY making work. You can’t visit here site and not find a new piece of art.

What’s most awesome about her work are these moleskin books which she illustrates into, linearly from cover to cover, they are just amazing.

You can check out her mini-comics at her etsy site. Visit her site and you’ll always find something delightful.

Spotlight On “We can Fix It”

Meet Jess Fink she is a great illustrator and comic artist who’s books are published by Top Shelf Comics. This one here is “We Can Fix it” and its hilarious a time traveling adventure to help her past self.

Be warned kiddies, some of this work is not appropriate for young children or adults who are offended by nudity. And yet Jess’ work is very prolific with prints and several threadless shirt designs.

Get to know Jess Fink at her blog but be warned it is best enjoyed by the mature inmature individual.

Spotlight on “Philo and Sophy”

|[<<Illustration Start ]|—–|[<Previous Illustration]|——-|[Next Illustration>]|——-|[Latest Content>>]|

Meet Robyn Diaz, Illustrator and Video game Art Director.

She just finished this amazing marathon that is the illustration  the Philo and Sophy children’s book.

That’s 28 acrylic paintings! I was sitting right there as she was working on them and I still can’t believe it. It is just really vibrant and detailed and the colors are awesome. The process it self is not unlike comics but the painting and the color really forces you to think about the consistency of the entire book.

The lettering also can’t fall within the middle of the spread.

I am jealous of her lettering skills. There, I said it.

The work will be featured in tomorrows ConTEXT national show at the Upstate Artist Guild in Albany.

The story for the book was written by Joseph Ulrich. If you are an aspiring artist or are curious about the magic and challenges behind children’s books you can read all about the illustration process in Robyn’s Blog.
